Partial dentures

Missing a few teeth? Keep the ones you have.

A partial denture fills the gaps and leans on your remaining teeth for support. Designed well, it protects those teeth rather than wearing them down, and it is made to fit your bite, not a standard shape.
Send an X-ray or three phone photos. A dentist reviews them and writes back with a provisional plan.

The three things worth knowing first

Replacement teeth that clip around your own

A partial denture is a removable plate carrying one or more false teeth. It sits in the gaps and holds on to the natural teeth either side, usually with small clasps or hidden attachments.

It comes out for cleaning and at night, and goes back in each morning.

When some teeth are missing, not all

A partial denture suits you if you have lost several teeth in one jaw but still have healthy teeth worth keeping. It is also a sensible choice where implants are not right for you yet, whether that is bone, health or budget.

  • Several teeth missing in one jaw
  • Remaining teeth healthy enough to support a plate
  • Implants not suitable, or not wanted yet
  • Looking for a removable option that is easy to adjust later

Made in the same building it is fitted in

Our laboratory is on site. The technician who makes your denture can see your mouth and your bite at the try-in, rather than working from a posted impression. Small corrections happen the same day, not by courier.

Every case is planned against how your jaw actually closes, so the teeth on the denture meet your own teeth evenly.

  • On-site laboratory
  • Bite recorded and planned before anything is made
  • Try-in before the final version
  • Adjustments done in person
YOUR OPTIONS

What makes one partial denture better than another

It is less about the teeth you can see and more about how the plate rests on the teeth you keep.

THE PROCEDURE

From first check to a secure partial denture

FIRST VISIT

Examination and plan

We check the teeth you’re keeping, take X-rays, and decide which design suits your mouth. Any tooth that needs a filling or gum treatment is treated first, because those teeth will support the denture. Media: photograph, consultation.

IMPRESSIONS

Mapping your teeth and gaps

We take impressions of your teeth and the gaps, and record your bite. We also match the shade of the replacement teeth to your natural ones so they blend in. Media: photograph, impression taking.

FRAMEWORK TRY-IN

Checking the fit

If your partial has a metal framework, we try it in on its own first to make sure it sits firmly against your teeth. The replacement teeth are then set on it and checked for look and bite. Media: photograph, framework try-in.

FITTING

Your finished partial

The finished partial denture is fitted and the clasps are adjusted so it holds securely without straining your natural teeth. We show you how to put it in, take it out, and clean around it. Media: photograph, fitting appointment.

REVIEW

Fine-tuning the fit

After a few days of wear, we check for pressure points and make sure your bite is even. Small adjustments now make a real difference to long-term comfort. Media: photograph, review appointment.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Full-mouth dental implants, answered

Will people be able to tell?

Usually not in conversation. Teeth are shaded to match your own. Metal clasps can show on some front teeth, and a telescopic design avoids them if that matters to you.

A well-designed partial should not. The design spreads the load and keeps pressure off weak teeth. Keeping the supporting teeth clean is the part that matters most, and we show you how.

Most people feel it is part of their mouth within a few weeks. Speech and chewing settle first; the sense of something extra takes a little longer.

Most foods, yes. Start soft and cut food smaller for the first week or two. Very sticky or very hard food is best avoided.

Generally no. Taking it out at night rests your gums and lets you clean it properly.

Several years, with care. Your mouth changes over time, so it may need refitting or relining along the way.

Yes. A partial denture does not rule implants out, and many patients move to implants once the timing or budget suits them.

Find out which denture suits you

Send clear photos of your teeth, front on and both sides biting together, plus a recent dental X-ray if you have one. A clinician reviews them and replies with a written opinion and an indicative price. No obligation, and no need to fly out to find out.
