Full dentures

A full set of teeth that fits how you bite.

When every tooth in a jaw has gone, a full denture replaces them all. The difference between one that sits comfortably and one that rocks is the planning, and most of that happens before anything is made.
Send an X-ray or three phone photos. A dentist reviews them and writes back with a provisional plan.

The three things worth knowing first

A complete set of replacement teeth

A full denture is a gum-coloured base carrying a whole arch of teeth. An upper denture holds on by suction against the roof of your mouth. A lower one rests on the ridge of your gum and is held mostly by your cheeks and tongue.

That is why lower dentures are the harder of the two, and why we talk about it openly.

When all the teeth in a jaw are missing, or failing

  • No natural teeth left in one or both jaws
  • Remaining teeth too weak or decayed to save
  • An old denture that no longer fits
  • Implants not suitable, or not wanted yet

If you already wear a denture and it has become loose, the bone underneath has probably changed shape. A new denture made to your mouth as it is now can make a large difference.

Planned around your jaw, made on site

A denture that ignores how your jaw closes will rub, click and drift. We record your bite and plan the teeth around it, so chewing pressure spreads evenly across the whole base.

Our laboratory is in the same building. The technician sees you at the try-in, and adjustments are made in person, not by courier.

  • Bite recorded before the teeth are set
  • On-site laboratory
  • Try-in before the final version
  • An implant-held option if a lower denture will not settle

Why some dentures stay put and others do not

Fit, bite and bone all play a part. Two minutes explains it better than a page of text.

THE PROCEDURE

From first scan to fitted denture

FIRST VISIT

Examination and plan

We examine your gums and jaw, take X-rays, and talk through how you want your new teeth to look. If any remaining teeth need removing first, we plan that here so the denture is built around healed gums. Media: photograph, consultation.

IMPRESSIONS AND BITE

Measuring your mouth

We take detailed impressions of your gums and record how your jaws meet. Together we choose the shade, shape and size of your new teeth so they suit your face. Media: photograph, impression or bite registration.

TRY-IN

A preview before it's final

You try a wax version of the denture with the teeth set in place. You can check how it looks, feels and bites, and we adjust anything before the final denture is made. Media: photograph, wax try-in.

FITTING

Your finished denture

The finished denture is fitted and checked for comfort, grip and bite. We show you how to put it in, take it out, and clean it. Media: photograph, fitting appointment.

REVIEW

Fine-tuning the fit

New dentures often rub in a spot or two while your gums settle. We check the fit and ease any pressure points so the denture is comfortable for everyday eating and speaking. Media: photograph, review appointment.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Full-mouth dental implants, answered

Why is my lower denture always looser than the upper?

The upper covers the roof of your mouth and gets strong suction. The lower sits on a narrow ridge with your tongue moving beside it, so it has far less to hold on to. Two implants solve this for most people.

It should. You choose the shade and shape at the try-in, and teeth are set to suit your face rather than a standard pattern.

Most people take a few weeks to relearn chewing. Start soft, cut food small, and chew on both sides at once to keep the denture steady.

For a few days, possibly. Reading aloud helps your tongue adjust faster.

A well-fitted denture should not rely on it. Some people like a little for confidence, which is fine.

Usually several years. The bone under a denture slowly shrinks, so a reline or a replacement is needed over time to keep the fit.

Yes. Many patients start with a conventional denture and add implants when the time is right.

Find out what your new denture would involve

Send clear photos of your mouth and, if you wear one, your current denture, plus a recent X-ray if you have it. A clinician reviews them and replies with a written opinion and an indicative price. No obligation, and no need to fly out to find out.
