Temporary dentures

No gaps while you heal.

Gums and bone take months to settle after teeth come out, and implants take months to heal. A temporary denture covers that time, so you fly home, go back to work and eat with teeth in place.
Send an X-ray or three phone photos. A dentist reviews them and writes back with a provisional plan.

The three things worth knowing first

A stand-in set of teeth

A temporary denture is a simple removable plate worn while your mouth heals. It is made to be adjusted, relined and eventually replaced, not to last for years.

An immediate denture is one type: it is made before your teeth are removed and fitted straight after, on the same day.

Anyone with a healing gap

  • Having teeth taken out before a permanent denture
  • Waiting for implants to heal before the final teeth go on
  • Healing after a bone graft
  • Needing a front tooth replaced quickly

You go home with teeth in place

For a patient flying back to the UK, the months between visits are the part to plan for. A temporary denture means those months are spent with teeth, not gaps.

Because our laboratory is on site, it can be prepared ahead of your extraction appointment and adjusted before you leave.

  • Fitted before you fly home
  • Made in our own laboratory
  • Adjusted in person before departure
  • Replaced by your final teeth at a later visit
YOUR OPTIONS

Why the fit changes in the first few months

After a tooth comes out, the gum and bone shrink as they heal. A temporary denture is built with that in mind.

THE PROCEDURE

Teeth on the same day as your extraction

FIRST VISIT

Examination and plan

We examine your mouth, take X-rays, and confirm which teeth need removing. We also talk through what comes after the temporary denture, whether that’s a permanent denture or implants. Media: photograph, consultation.

IMPRESSIONS AND BITE

Made before your extraction

Impressions and bite records are taken while your teeth are still in place. Your temporary denture is then made from them, with a shade and shape chosen to look natural from day one. Media: photograph, impression taking.

EXTRACTION AND FITTING

Same-day teeth

Your teeth are removed and the temporary denture is fitted straight away. You don’t leave without teeth, and the denture protects the gums while they begin to heal. Media: photograph, fitting appointment.

FIRST CHECK

Easing the early days

Shortly after fitting, we check how your gums are healing and ease any spots where the denture is rubbing. We also go over cleaning, eating and how long to wear it. Media: photograph, review appointment.

RELINE AND NEXT STEPS

Keeping the fit as you heal

Your gums shrink as they heal, so the denture is relined to keep it secure. Once healing is complete, you move on to your permanent denture or implant treatment. Media: photograph, review appointment.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Full-mouth dental implants, answered

Will I ever be without teeth?

Not if an immediate denture is planned. It is fitted at the same appointment your teeth come out.

Usually until your gums have settled or your implants have healed, which is typically a few months. Your plan gives the timing for your case.

Because your gums are shrinking as they heal. That is expected, and a reline brings the fit back.

Soft food at first. It is a temporary appliance, so very hard or sticky food is best left until your final teeth are in.

In the first day or two after extraction you may be asked to keep it in. After that, take it out at night unless your clinician says otherwise.

Plan your treatment with no gaps

Send clear photos of your teeth, front on and both sides biting together, plus a recent X-ray if you have one. A clinician reviews them and replies with a written plan, including what you would wear while you heal, and an indicative price. No obligation.
